About AFCAT Exam

Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is the common written exam for Flying, Technical and Ground Duty branches of IAF. It is conducted by Indian Air Force and the test centres are approximately in every major city of our country. AFCAT exam is conducted twice in a year for which the first notification comes out in the month of December and Exam is conducted in the month of February while the second notification comes in the month of June and Exam takes place in the month of August.

Note: Time - 2 Hours, Questions – 100, Correct Answer -3 Marks, Wrong Answer -1 Mark.

Important Points:

1. This National level exam held twice a year. Boys and girls from any stream of graduation can apply.
2. Students in 4th SEM of graduation and BE students in 6th SEM can apply and any PG also can apply.
3. No Percentage criteria in 12th, minimum 60% required in graduation.
4. For Flying Branch: 12^th with PCM required only; for Technical Branch: BE required; for Ground Duties Branch; Graduation/PG in any stream.
5. Any number of chances can be availed till the age of 24.
6. Candidates applying for Technical Branch have to pass in EKT also.

Flying Branch:

Age: 19 to 23 years as on. Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (Indian) is relax ableupto 25 years.

Educational Qualifications: Graduates (minimum 3 years degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university who have attained minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and have passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level or B.E./B.Tech degree (4 year course) from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.

Technical Branch
Age: 18 to 28 years.

Educational Qualifications:

Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L): Candidates applying for AE (L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate membership examination of the institute of electronics and telecommunication engineers by actual studies All candidates applying for AE (L) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) AE (M): Candidates applying for AE (M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Section A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies All candidates applying for AE (M) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together

Ground Duty Branch

Age: 

For Graduate: 20 to 23 years (age limit)

For Post Graduate/LLB (Five years integrated course): 20 to 25 years (age limit)

For LLB (Three years course after Graduation): 20 to 26 years (age limit)

Educational Qualifications:
Administration and Logistics: Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a Pass Graduate Degree / equivalent Diploma in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers.

Accounts: Graduate Degree in Commerce (B.Com) (Minimum three year degree course) with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or Post Graduate Degree in Commerce (M.Com) / CA/ICWA with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

Education: Post Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

Selection Procedure:The testing would consist of three stages as given below:
Stage-I: Test consisting of Intelligence Test along with other tests will be conducted on the first day. Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing All State-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for. Those candidates who either do not qualify in State-I testing or do not meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself

State-II: Testing consisting of Psychological test, Group Test and Interview will be conducted on subsequent days (Five Days)

For Flying Branch: Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) would be administered to eligible candidates

General Awareness - Geography, Sports, History, Politics, Civics, Defence, Culture, Art, Basic Science, Current Affairs, Environment etc.

Verbal Ability in English - Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Comprehension, Antonyms, Synonyms and Testing of Vocabulary.

Numerical Ability - Decimal Fraction, Profit & loss, Average, Simplification, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage and Simple interest.

Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test - Spatial Ability and Verbal Skills.

EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test)

EKT Exam Pattern

Time - 30 Minutes, Questions – 50, Correct Answer - 3 Marks, Wrong Answer -1 Mark.

IAF has included EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test) a 30 Minutes additional paper for the candidates applying for technical branches, the paper will be conducted after AFCAT. The test will be conducted as per branch i.e. Computer Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Candidates passing the written exam are called for SSB Interview and those who clears SSB Interview are then sent for medicals and finally all India merit list is prepared by the commission, those who are in merit are sent to one of the training establishments.
